Gimp Windows 10

GIMP for Windows. Nobody will argue that using the program is a walk in the park but, if you put in the effort, GIMP can offer you results that are (almost?) every bit as good at its pay-for cousin - except in specific use cases. Gimp is a cross-platform image editing software or tool available for Windows, Linux, macOS, and more operating systems. It is open-source and free software, so you can change its source code and distribute modified software. Mp3 editor for windows 10.

You've decided to come join the fun in GIMP land, and we're excited to have you! Now the question is, how do you get GIMP up and running on your computer?

It's really easy to Install GIMP. Here's the basic idea:

  • First, you'll need to know just a little information about your computer. Basically, you'll need to know what operating system you're running, and if GIMP is compatible with it.
  • Then, you'll find the correct version of GIMP for your operating system at GIMP.org.
  • Last, you'll download GIMP, and run the installer.

Now that you have the basic idea, here are the instructions in more detail.

Install GIMP For Windows:

At the time of writing, you'll need Windows 7 or newer to run the latest stable version of GIMP.

If you're on Windows, and you don't know what operating system you're using (ie Windows 7, Windows XP, etc.) follow these instructions to find out which operating system you're running.

Now, go to the official GIMP repository and click the Download link at the top of the page to download GIMP. This version of GIMP will work with any version of Windows, as long as it's Windows 7 or newer.

While GIMP is available from a lot of sites (since it's free and open source software), I recommend only downloading it from the official repository at GIMP.org to make sure you don't get stuck with any malware.

When the download is complete, open up the package, and run the installer. Follow any instructions on the windows that appear.

That's it! You're finished installing GIMP! The first time you start GIMP, it may take a few minutes to get going, because there's a lot of new stuff to load. Just be patient, it will start eventually.

Install GIMP For Mac:

To install the latest version of GIMP on a Mac, at the time of writing you'll need OS X Yosemite or newer.

Not sure which version of Mac OS you're using? Follow these instructions to find out.

Now, head over to the official GIMP download page, and click it's link to download GIMP to your computer.

When the files are finished downloading, open up the Zip file, then open the installer to begin installing GIMP. Follow any directions you're given in the windows that pop up.

GIMP will now be installed on your computer! The first time you start GIMP, it may take a few minutes to get going, because there's a lot of new stuff to load. Just be patient, it will start eventually.

Have Fun!

Now that GIMP is installed, you're ready to get started editing! You can use GIMP to open and edit any image file that's on your computer.

There's plenty more GIMP help where this came from. I mean, literally, where this came from. HowToGIMP.com has a growing library of easy to understand, plain English GIMP tutorials and videos to help you learn GIMP faster.

GIMP 2.10 comes with a slightly different look than many of you may be used to. In some cases, the user interface may be darker than previous versions, and the icons may take on a different look as well (which can make it more difficult to find the tools you commonly use).

Luckily, it is pretty easy to customize your user interface – something the GIMP team focused on incorporating specifically into GIMP 2.10. In this tutorial, I'll show you how to change the theme colors and icons style in GIMP 2.10.

To start, go to Edit>Preferences. This will bring up the preferences dialogue box.

On the left side of this box, you'll see a menu containing a variety of items you can edit the preferences for (i.e. System Resources, Color Management, etc.). Find the menu item labeled 'Interface,' and click on the '+' icon to dropdown the sub-menu items within it (denoted by the red arrow – it'll display as a '-' icon after you click on it).

You should now see more options, including 'Theme,' 'Icon Theme,' etc. Click on 'Theme' to bring up the options for changing the color of your GIMP theme (denoted by the red arrow in the image above).

You can choose from 'Dark,' 'Gray,' 'Light,' and 'System' themes – whatever you prefer. Click on each one to preview what your GIMP theme will look like with that particular theme. In the photo above, I chose the 'system' theme as this is the most similar to the prior GIMP 2.8 version (which is what a lot of you are used to).

To change the appearance of the icons in your GIMP, click on the sub-menu item labeled 'Icon Theme' (denoted by the red arrow in the image above).

Gimp Versions For Windows 10

Here, you'll see four options, including 'Color,' Legacy,' 'Symbolic,' and 'Symbolic-Inverted.' The 'Legacy' setting will make your icons appear as they would in previous versions (i.e. GIMP 2.8) – which will make it easier to find the tools you are used to using.

There is also a dropdown box (denoted by the red arrow in the image above) that allows you to change the resolution of your icons. For example, you can set the option 'Guess icon size from resolution' to have the size of your icons be based on the size and resolution of your computer screen.

The next option allows you to have your icons be the default size that comes with whatever icon theme you selected.

How To Use Gimp Windows 10

However, if you prefer to have larger or smaller icons, you can select 'Custom Icon Size' and use the size slider below to adjust the size of your icons (denoted by the red arrow in the image above). You have four options here, including 'Small,' 'Medium,' 'Large,' and 'Huge.' I chose Medium for my set-up.

Once you have set your Theme color and Icon theme, click OK to apply the changes. GIMP should now be updated with your new settings.
